According to sources, the former Camilla Parker Bowles was set to become the Princess of Wales after marrying King Charles (then Prince Charles) in 2005. However, she chose to be known as the Duchess of Cornwall instead.
Camilla, aged 77, was crowned alongside Charles in May 2023. The king, 75, succeeded to the throne upon the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, in 2022.
It’s understandable that Camilla avoided being referred to as Princess of Wales,” Christopher Andersen, author of “The King,” told News. “She was Princess Diana’s despised archnemesis; Diana called Camilla ‘the Rottweiler,’ and Camilla’.
The two women were bitter rivals, and Camilla famously ended Charles and Diana’s marriage,” Andersen explained. “Millions of people despised Camilla, and it would not have been in her best interests to rub it in by insisting on calling herself Princess of Wales.”
