In Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, John Ashton’s character not only rejoins the franchise but also subtly alludes to its past mistakes.
Judge Reinhold and co-star Ashton discuss their on-screen recognition in a conversation with News.

that was only when I saw that [in the script] that I realized that. It’s humorous.
In the Netflix movie, Ashton’s character John Taggart and Reinhold’s character Billy Rosewood reconnect as the police team.
It was the first time Murphy, Reinhold, and Ashton had been on screen together since the 1987 release of the sequel, and it recreated a scene from the 1985 original.
It had been a while since we had seen one another. In 84, we were two blocks from the original site. “It was insane,” remarks Reinhold.
Jerry Bruckheimer was present, and the team was notably silent. They seemed to find it somewhat unsettling. They’d seen it when they were so young, and now we’d walked out of their collective history, or out of a book, or whatever.
