Key Ukrainian city of Vuhledar is allegedly under Russian control.

Russian forces have fully occupied the eastern city of Vuhledar, which Ukrainian soldiers have been defending since the beginning of Moscow's full-scale invasion two and a half years ago.

On Wednesday, the eastern military command of Ukraine claimed that they had instructed the last fighters in the Vuhledar to retreat in order to prevent encirclement.

Russia has been attempting to capture this city for more than two years in an effort to move further north and get to major regional transportation centers like Kurakhove and Pokrovsk.

Military bloggers sympathetic to the Kremlin had uploaded several films the day before that showed Russian servicemen with flags flying from the rooftops of several Vuhledar buildings.

On Tuesday, Donetsk regional authorities verified that Russian troops had nearly arrived at the city center.

The news has interviewed two soldiers from the 72nd brigade who managed to leave the city before the most recent attack and take up new positions in the same area. They assert that their soldiers have left the city.

According to an unnamed machine gunner, Ukrainian forces have been forced to escape Vuhledar on foot for the past few days due to unfeasible other means of evacuation.

While trying to escape, many were hurt or killed by Russian artillery and drones, according to Roman, another soldier. There are still a lot of missing people.
