SIALKOT: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) delayed their August 22 demonstration in Islamabad, according to Minister of Defence Khawaja Asif, because of “fear of rejection” from the public.
The federal capital was the site of a public meeting organized by the Imran Khan-led former ruling party, but it was postponed until September 8 due to the local administration rescinding the no-objection certificate (NOC) and sealing the highways to Islamabad.
Before the much-anticipated public rally, PTI leaders Gohar Ali Khan and Azam Swati met with the imprisoned former prime minister at 7 a.m. in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail. They later claimed that the gathering was postponed at the founder’s request.
But a number of party leaders, including Aleema Khan, Imran’s sister, refuted what the top leaders had to say.
