After India launched an unexpected nighttime offensive, Pakistani forces redirected the tide of the conflict in less than 48 hours. After several fierce assaults, Pakistani forces drove back the Indian forces and surged into Indian territory.
Pakistani tanks broke through Indian positions on the Kasur front, and the First Armored Division soundly defeated India’s 4th Mountain Division in a tough engagement. Numerous 4th Mountain Division battalions suffered severe losses, and as they withdrew, they left behind tanks and other vehicles.
The 4th Mountain Division has been soundly defeated, according to reports from Indian corps commanders, who have proposed disbanding the division.
The green crescent flag was hoisted over Khem Karan, the biggest city taken by either side in the 1965 conflict, by Pakistani forces as a sign of their victory.
