Mr. Kim, a smiling man wearing a white flat cap and holding two pairs of binoculars in front of him, observed the drone test.
Among the group of individuals gathered around him on Saturday during his visit to the Drone Institute of North Korea’s Academy of Defence Sciences, he was the only one seated.
The test drones flew on several pre-planned paths, located and struck simulated targets with success, according to official media.
Test images from North Korea purportedly showed a white drone with X-shaped wings and tails smashing into and demolishing a target that looked like South Korea’s primary K2 battle tank.
This is the first time Pyongyang has shown out suicide drones, according to the Unification Ministry in Seoul, South Korea.
According to the North’s official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Mr. Kim requested the manufacture of more suicide drones for use in tactical infantry and special operation units. These drones should include underwater suicide attack drones, strategic surveillance drones, and multipurpose assault drones.
