ISLAMABAD: Residents fled their houses in fear as a strong 6.0 magnitude earthquake shook the federal capital and other cities, including portions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Reports indicated that the earthquake could be felt as far away as Lahore.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s (PMD) National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC), the earthquake occurred at around 12:18 am, with its epicentre located in southeast Afghanistan.
In the Hindu Kush mountains, 15 kilometers below the surface, the shocks were detected.
In Peshawar, Mardan, Murree, and the surrounding towns, there were also strong shocks that sent people fleeing in terror from their homes and workplaces. Similar complaints also came in from Lahore, Wah Cantt, Taxila, and Chakwal.
