KHARTOUM: According to a rebel organization, a huge landslide in Sudan’s western Darfur region has destroyed a whole mountain village, killed over 1,000 people, and left just one person alive.
According to a statement from the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army (SLM), which is led by Abdulwahid al-Nur, the community of Tarasin in the Jebel Marra region was devastated when the calamity struck on Sunday following days of intense rain.
“Initial information indicates the death of all village residents, estimated at more than 1,000 individuals, with only one survivor,” the organization stated, describing the landslide as “massive and devastating” .
