ISLAMABAD – On Wednesday, Azam Nazeer Tarar, the Federal Minister for Law, denied rumors circulating that the government would host a joint press conference with the parties in alliance.
During a casual conversation with journalists, Tarar stated, “No decision has been taken yet to hold a press conference with the allies.”
The law minister made these comments in response to the ruling coalition’s failure to garner the necessary two-thirds majority in the parliament to enact a proposed constitutional amendment that would have extended the retirement age for judges, among other provisions.
The Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), Qazi Faez Isa, is set to retire in October. The government announced on Monday that the modifications had been “postponed indefinitely” because Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), refused to accept the government’s vigorous efforts to pass the law.
