The Supreme Court granted the federal and provincial governments’ intra-court appeals against the September 15, 2023 majority ruling in the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) amendments case on Friday, setting a precedent for future decisions.
A larger panel, presided over by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faiz Isa, unanimously overturned the decision of the former court led by CJP Umar Ata Bandial to invalidate the National Accountability Ordinance (NAO) modifications.
On June 6, the five-member panel postponed rulings on several challenges against the ruling of the Supreme Court, which Bandial had announced on September 15.
“Strange” choice
Barrister Asad Rahim Khan responded to the Supreme Court’s ruling by saying, “This chief justice has once again made a strange and hardly reasoned decision.”
