One of the National Football League’s more underappreciated quarterbacks for a considerable amount of time is Kirk Cousins.
But his time in the Midwest was limited, and this past offseason, he and the Minnesota Vikings called it quits.
Had the 35-year-old not torn his Achilles during the season, things could have turned out a bit differently, but the signs had been clear all along.
Cousins inked a four-year, $180 million contract with the Atlanta Falcons during the offseason, with $100 million of that amount guaranteed. It’s understandable why Minnesota moved on given that the Vikings had to pay Justin Jefferson, which they did, and a top pick in the NFL (which they used on J.J. McCarthy).
Jared Allen seems content with it as well.
It behaved how it ought to have behaved. I would have moved on because—from Kirk’s point of view, nothing personal—but you have to consider what is ahead. Allen added to OutKick’s “Don’t @ Me with Dan Dakich” on Tuesday that even if you get two or three terrific years out of Kirk, for that sort of money, you’re setting yourself behind getting a good draft pick and in the correct direction.
