The most recent federal budget of Pakistan included a new import tax, and as a result, the price of common lentils increased by between Rs40 and Rs50 per kg.
The product with the biggest price increase is masoor dal (red lentils), which is currently selling for Rs520 a kilogram after rising by Rs40.
The price of chana dal, or chickpea lentils, has also increased by Rs40, to Rs230 per kg.
The cost of huge Kabuli chana (chickpeas) has increased by Rs10, to Rs320 per kg, while the price of mong dal (mung beans) has increased by Rs40, to Rs260 per kg.
