Argentina’s Lionel Messi will miss almost six matches in the next Major League Soccer (MLS) season, which is a huge blow for David Beckham’s Inter Miami.
Messi will miss a minimum of seven games during the MLS season, which begins in February of next year.
The famous football player’s absence is due to his 2024 commitments to the Argentina national team.
This summer, in June and July, there will be a Copa America. Messi hopes to help Argentina win another major championship after winning the World Cup in 2022.
As a result, from June 15 to July 6, he will be absent from at least five MLS games for Miami throughout the tournament, including games against the Philadelphia Union.Messi and Argentina will play three group matches against Peru, Chile, and an as-yet-unqualified team. Three days before Miami’s MLS matchup against Toronto at DRV PNK Stadium, on July 14, is the Copa America final.
Furthermore, he might miss Miami’s two early-season games in March, which fall during a FIFA international break. It is not yet known what exact matches Argentina will play at this time.
Messi would miss two additional MLS games for Miami—against DC United on March 16 and the New York Red Bulls on March 23—should Argentina take part in these friendlies in March.
