Former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has warned U.S. Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino that his “day of reckoning is coming.” She spoke out after he suggested that federal agents would remain active in Chicago for years. Bovino, who leads Operation At Large in California, posted on X that the agency plans to stay in the city for the foreseeable future.
In his post, he wrote, “Don’t call it a comeback; we’re gonna be here for years,” quoting LL Cool J’s Mama Said Knock You Out. Along with the post, he shared a video montage featuring the song. He said the Border Patrol’s presence aims to help Chicago fight criminal illegal aliens.
Lightfoot Fires Back
Lightfoot quickly responded. She called Bovino a “glory hound” and accused the Border Patrol under his command of unconstitutional behavior. She added, “Greg, your day of reckoning is fast approaching.” This clear statement shows she plans to hold the federal agency accountable.
Mayor Johnson Joins the Conversation
Meanwhile, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson took a lighter approach. He endorsed naming one of the city’s snow plows “Abolish ICE” and asked residents to submit their own suggestions by January 10th, 2026.
However, Bovino responded sarcastically. He suggested the plow be called “Reality Check” and painted green. He implied that Johnson obsesses over the Border Patrol. Johnson then shared Bovino’s post on X, noting the grammatical mistake where Bovino wrote “your” instead of “you’re.”
Border Patrol Criticizes Swalwell
Tensions continued when Bovino targeted Representative Eric Swalwell. Images had surfaced showing ICE agents raiding a nativity scene with baby Jesus. Bovino criticized the congressman, and the incident highlighted the growing conflict between federal agents and local leaders in Chicago.
