Mahmood Khan Achakzai, the chairman of the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), had his arrest order revoked by a local court in Quetta on Saturday. The hearing is scheduled for May 31.
The PkMAP chief disobeyed the warrant by failing to appear in court in relation to the first information report (FIR) against him, the investigating officer informed the court.
Achakzai’s arrest warrant was suspended by the judicial magistrate, who also set May 31 as the date of the subsequent hearing.
The politician’s arrest warrant was issued one day prior, and the police were instructed to apprehend and present the politician to the court on April 27.
On March 11, the local government filed a complaint against Achakzai at the Gawalmandi police station for interfering with the public.
On March 4, the district administration denied the allegations of the raid at the residence of the senior politician, stating that it had only recently acquired an abandoned government plot close to Achakzai’s residence on Quetta’s Quarry Road.
Putting up fences around the government land, Achakzai had illegally seized it, according to Quetta Deputy Commissioner Saad bin Asad. He attested to the fact that a land guard had been taken into custody for obstructing state business and brandishing a firearm at an assistant commissioner.
