A man who jumped a barricade and grabbed actress Ariana Grande during the Wicked: For Good premiere in Singapore has now been formally charged with public nuisance.
The incident, which quickly went viral, shows Australian citizen Johnson Wen rushing past photographers and lunging at Grande as the cast walked the yellow carpet. Actress Cynthia Erivo immediately stepped in, pulling the shocked star away while security escorted Wen out.
The 26-year-old later posted on Instagram claiming he was “free after being arrested,” but was charged in court on Friday afternoon. Local reports indicate he plans to plead guilty.
Wen, who calls himself the “Troll Most Hated,” has a history of storming celebrity events. His social media features clips of him interrupting Katy Perry’s Sydney concert in June and The Chainsmokers’ show last December.
If convicted, he could be fined up to S$2,000 ($1,540; £1,170).
Outraged fans have been demanding strong action, with many urging authorities to arrest and deport him. Others pointed out that Grande has previously spoken about her PTSD following the 2017 Manchester Arena bombing, saying this stunt could re-trigger trauma.
Some users also questioned the efficiency of event security and called on social media platforms to remove Wen’s disruptive videos.
In circulating clips, Grande is visibly shaken, while co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Cynthia Erivo comfort her as Wen is taken away. The event, however, continued without further disruption.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement.
