The late convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein was referred to be Lord Mandelson’s “best pal” in a letter included in a supposed “birthday book” issued by US MPs.
The UK’s ambassador to the US since last year, Lord Mandelson, wrote a message for Epstein’s 50th birthday in 2003, calling him a “intelligent, sharp-witted man” who “parachuted” into his life.
The Wall Street Journal first revealed the existence of the letter from Lord Mandelson in July when it revealed specifics of the purported birthday note.
Lord Mandelson “has long been clear that he very much regrets ever having been introduced to Epstein,” an official representative for the politician told the news.
