Mariah Carey has reached another major milestone in her iconic career. The global music star has been announced as the first lead performer for the 2026 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony.
The Winter Games will take place in Milan and Cortina, Italy, with the Opening Ceremony scheduled for February 6, 2026. Olympic organizers confirmed the news on December 15, calling Carey’s performance one that will make the ceremony unforgettable.
The announcement came on the same day Carey celebrated a historic achievement on the Billboard charts. Her famous holiday song, “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” reached 20 total weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, setting a new all-time record.
Carey marked the moment with a festive Instagram post, thanking her fans for their continued support.
“Humbly taking back the torch!! 20 weeks at #1. I’m so grateful,” she wrote.
In the photo, Carey is seen wearing a sparkling red outfit while holding a golden torch in front of a Christmas tree. Fans quickly noticed the connection between the torch and her newly announced Olympic role.
