As the world observes International Day to Combat Islamophobia, top leaders of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and Maryam Nawaz, have demanded concrete measures to combat discrimination and unfair treatment of Muslims worldwide.
“Islamophobia undermines the very essence of our shared humanity, as well as the principles of tolerance, compassion, and pluralism,” the PPP chief said in his message for the International Day to Combat Islamophobia.
Bilawal, in a statement, emphasized the importance of the International Day to Combat Islamophobia as a painful reminder of the critical need to raise awareness, cultivate mutual tolerance and understanding, and implement effective methods to eradicate this modern plague from our society.
“It is imperative that we confront Islamophobia head-on and work tirelessly to dismantle the stereotypes and misconceptions that perpetuate it,” he said in a statement.

Former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari delivers a special high-level gathering to commemorate International Day to Combat Islamophobia at the United Nations on March 10, 2023.
Islam, according to the former foreign minister, is a religion of moderation and peace that promotes diversity and treating all people with dignity and respect, regardless of creed or background.
He stated that since 9/11, there has been a significant increase in hate and institutional distrust directed toward Muslims and Islam around the world, and that, despite claims to the contrary, Islam and Muslims are continuously and unfairly connected with terrorism.
The politician urged governments, civil society organizations, religious leaders, and citizens worldwide to join forces in this noble quest, stating, “We must strive to create inclusive societies where people of all faiths can coexist harmoniously, free from fear and prejudice.”
