“It is quite reasonable that the government should handle his travel and security arrangements,” a spokesman for the former health secretary stated.
When the former health secretary came before the investigation in June, November, and December of last year, the Department for Health acknowledged that it had given him the chauffeur-driven vehicle three times.
The disclosure transpired subsequent to the Daily Mirror submitting a Freedom of Information demand to the authorities.
According to the newspaper, government funds were utilized to pay for the car’s provision, even if its exact cost remained a secret.
According to a representative for Mr. Hancock, transportation to and from the inquiry was “entirely reasonable” for the government to offer.
“Matt attended the COVID Inquiry entirely in his capacity as having been the secretary of state during the pandemic,” they stated.
“It is entirely reasonable that the government should take care of his travel and security arrangements in this instance.”
During the pandemic, Mr. Hancock was a well-known figure at the frequent press conferences.
However, he was compelled to step down in 2021 after he acknowledged violating the coronavirus guidelines set forth by the government while having an affair with an aide.
The investigation is looking into how the government handled the pandemic and has heard testimony from Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Boris Johnson, among other government officials.
