The world number two remembered the Good Friday Agreement, the 1998 peace accord that contributed to the cessation of hostilities in his own country, amidst the continuing division between the PGA Tour and the breakaway LIV circuit.
McIlroy emphasized the need to come to an agreement as soon as possible and stated that any agreement between the two golf tours will require some concessions.
“I compare it to the Good Friday Agreement and the peace process that Northern Ireland underwent in the 1990s. No one was pleased,” McIlroy remarked.
Protestants and Catholics were both unhappy, but peace was achieved, and after that, you just have to learn to live with the compromises that have been made, isn’t that right?
