In 2022, award-winning filmmaker Bong-Joon Ho collaborated with the acclaimed Robert Pattinson on the science fiction picture Mickey 17.
However, the SAG-AFTRA strike in 2023 had an impact. The movie development was put on hold for several months, and the release date was pushed back from March 29, 2024 to January 31, 2025.
For those unfamiliar, Mickey 1 is a film version of Ashton Edward’s 2022 novel Mickey 7. It tells the narrative of expendables (space colonists) dispatched to inhabit an icy planet. However, the fantasy novel revealed that when a crewmember dies, their body is replaced with a new one that retains the majority of their memories. Hence Mickey 7, who is the seventh edition of Mickey Barnes.
Ashton Edward also published a sequel to his book with the same concept, Antimatter Blues, although whether or not the sequel will be adapted into a film remains unknown.
This modification outraged X users, who used social media to express their concerns about the delay.
