At the age of sixteen, Miller won the gold in the club throw event on his Paralympic début for Great Britain in Atlanta in 1996. Miller has won 34 major international medals.
The cerebral palsy-born Gateshead native, 44, went on to win bronze in the discus and hold his championship in Sydney. He then repeated as champion in Athens before winning silver in Beijing.
After battling through the agony of a hip injury to finish 11th in London in 2012, he had a hip replacement the following year and went on to earn bronze in Rio in 2016.
At the 2021 European Championships in Poland, he made his final appearance for his country, placing fourth.
“It has been an honor to compete at the highest level and represent my country,” Miller said. On September 8, she will compete in her final competition at the CP Sport National Championships in Coventry.
“I’ll miss the competitive energy, the rush of making a fantastic throw, and the friendship between teammates, referees, and opponents.
“However, nothing lasts forever, and I’m excited to channel my energy into fresh challenges and I look forward to continuing to inspire and motivate.”
