KARACHI: Sheikh-ul-Hadith Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani, a well-known Islamic scholar, expressed regret that widespread claims of vote fraud seem to surround every election and said that “if the public stands up for themselves, they can bring the government to its knees.”
Speaking at a gathering in Karachi on Saturday, Mufti Usmani expressed her disappointment that “every aspect of life in the West has been idealized.”
He questioned “which natural wealth we do not possess,” pointing out that Allah Almighty has bestowed upon the nation an abundance of resources.
“However, we have yet not even been able to pave a metalled road to Lake Saif-ul-Muluk, nor have we laid any railway lines since the ones constructed by the British,” he said.
Critical inquiry “Where did we go wrong, and where does the root of our mistakes lie?” was put up by {\Mufti Usmani.
The leading Islamic scholar bemoaned that the country is now a “slave” to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), saying, “This [dependency] has indebted every child in the country.”
“Without the IMF, we could not operate. Given these conditions, I think it would be difficult to implement an Islamic system through politics. People, not governments, are the ones who initiate revolutions “said the speaker.
The eminent religious scholar declared that the country was currently experiencing both political and economic challenges, saying that “given the circumstances, despair is gripping every one of us politically and economically.”
