Former Tehsildar Najaf Hameed has been arrested on the grounds of the Anti-Corruption Court.
Najaf Hameed, the brother of former ISI chief Faiz Hameed, was arrested on Monday by the anti-corruption department’s Rawalpindi circle after Judge Ali Nawaz Bhakar denied his bail application in a corruption and bribery case.
According to sources, anti-corruption officials apprehended Najaf Hameed and left for Chakwal on court orders.
According to reports, 18 people have been arrested in connection with bribery, abuse of authority, and financial losses to the national government. However, the other suspects are still at large.
Najaf was then brought before Judge Ali Nawaz Bhakar of the Anti-Corruption Special Court. The judge denied his pre-arrest bail application.
Najaf then decided to ask the senior civil judge (criminal) for pre-arrest bail. He and his counsel will be brought before the senior civil judge’s court while in the custody of anti-corruption officials.
According to sources, Najaf Hameed obtained protective bail from the court in the bribery case. In April 2023, the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) launched an investigation into him on suspicions of out-of-turn promotion and asset accumulation beyond means.
The anti-graft committee issued a letter to Rawalpindi and Chakwal deputy commissioners, requesting a record of Najaf Hameed’s land ownership. On February 13, he was suspended from his position as naib tehsildar in Chakwal for alleged wrongdoing.
