QUETTA: Following National Party (NP) President Abdul Malik Baloch’s announcement of support for Asif Ali Zardari, Pashtunkhwa Awami National Party (PkMAP) leader Abdul Qahar Wadan said Saturday that the former had previously promised to back Mahmood Khan Achakzai in the presidential election.
Speaking to media in Quetta, Wadan stated that the NP, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), and independent candidates had pledged the PkMAP of their support in the election against Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-chairman Zardari.
He also pondered how the NP came up with eight requests when the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), a combination of several political parties, had 28.
Meanwhile, MPA Abdul Malik stated that there was no doubt that the NP would sit in the opposition benches, but they would support Zardari in the election.
NP had previously pledged its support for Zardari in the Senate and provincial assemblies.
Following a discussion with the PPP, NP spokesperson Ali Ahmed Langove stated that they had agreed to his party’s eight demands, which included the recovery of missing individuals and the implementation of the 18th Amendment.
The spokesperson also stated that they have agreed to give Balochistan a share of the revenue earned by the Gwadar port and dam projects.
Achakzai, a presidential candidate for the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) supported by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), will face Zardari on Saturday.
