NDMA warns of urban flooding in Punjab, Sindh amid heavy rains forecast

Disaster management predicts heavy rainfall, thundershowers over next 24 to 48 hours in parts of Punjab, Sindh

ISLAMABAD: Parts of Punjab and Sindh are expected to experience urban flooding as a result of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

The National Emergencies Operation Center of the federal authorities has predicted that within the next 24 hours, rain and thunderstorms are expected in the southern and northeastern regions of Punjab.

In the northern regions of Sindh, rain and thunderstorms are also anticipated within the next 24 to 48 hours.

Mithi, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Matiari, Jamshoro, Umarkot, Tharparkar, Khairpur, Thatta, Badin, Chhor, Padidan, Sajawal, Karachi, Hyderabad, Tando Allahyar, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Dadu, and the surrounding areas are expected to experience scattered rainfall with the possibility of heavyfalls under this system.

Potohar area, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Sahiwal, and others are also predicted to have sporadic rains.Furthermore, Bahawalpur, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, and the neighboring districts could expect heavy rain and sporadic heavy falls.

All relevant departments have received orders from the NDMA to take the required safety measures to lessen the potential effects of flooding and harsh weather.

The aforementioned places are expected to experience urban flooding and inundation. People who are at risk are encouraged to stay out of the water and locate a safe place away from places that are prone to flooding. In order to prevent water leaks, the advice also encouraged residents to make sure their windows and roofs were properly sealed, and to maintain clear gutters and drainage systems to prevent water buildup.
