A government minister said on Tuesday that Nepal had relaxed its social media ban in the wake of protests that claimed 19 lives.
According to Communications and Information Technology Minister and Cabinet spokesperson Prithvi Subba Gurung, the government has lifted the social media ban that was put in place last week.
The decision was made in response to Monday’s “Gen Z” rallies against pervasive corruption, which resulted in 19 fatalities and over 100 injuries. The prohibition set off the demonstrations.
“We have lifted the social media blockade. Right now, they’re working,” Gurung told Reuters.
