Netflix experienced a temporary outage for some users in the U.S. on Wednesday evening, coinciding with the debut of the highly anticipated fifth and final season of Stranger Things.
According to Downdetector, reports of streaming issues peaked at over 14,000 before dropping to under 800 by 8:45 PM ET. Netflix confirmed in an email to Reuters that a small number of members faced brief streaming interruptions on TV devices, but services were fully restored within five minutes.
The sci-fi hit, which Netflix ranks as its third-most popular English-language series worldwide, premiered its final season at 8 PM ET. This is not the first time Netflix has faced technical glitches during major releases or live events, having previously reported outages during the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul fight and the live reality series Love is Blind.
Fans are flocking to the platform to witness the dramatic conclusion of the beloved series.
