Criticizing the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for not aligning with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari stated on Saturday that the Imran-founded party had never attempted to obstruct Shehbaz Sharif’s path to the Prime Minister’s Office by holding political talks with the PPP.
“Shehbaz Sharif would have to thank the PTI after becoming Prime Minister,” Bilawal stated at a press conference in Karachi, mocking the Imran-founded party.
“The PTI founder may have opted not to fight against Shehbaz. We are voting for the party that approached us [to form the next government at the Centre],” Bilawal, who was foreign minister during Shehbaz’s earlier tenure as PM, remarked.
The PPP and PML-N entered into an agreement, with the Bilawal-led party set to support Shehbaz as the prime minister, while his party will be getting other top posts. However, the PPP will not be part of the federal cabinet. The politician also remarked on Imran Khan’s letter to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to withhold financial aid to Pakistan over suspected cheating in the February 8 statewide polls, saying: “The letter has no importance, but it would expose their [PTI] real face before the nation.”
