SEOUL: According to state media on Monday, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un stated that if Washington stops demanding that his nation give up its nuclear weapons, there is no reason to forego talks with the US. However, he stated that he would never exchange the nuclear arsenal for a waiver of sanctions.
“Personally, I still have fond memories of US President Trump,” Kim stated Tuesday during an address at the Supreme People’s Assembly, according to KCNA. During Trump’s first term as president, the two leaders met three times.
The remarks coincide with the new liberal government in Seoul calling on Trump to lead the effort to resume discussions with Kim, six years after all peace negotiations with Pyongyang broke down due to disagreements over sanctions and nuclear dismantlement.
