Eleven individuals were transported to a hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation after five people were rescued from the building’s first, second, and fourth levels.
When fire fighters were dispatched to the five-story building on Friday morning, about two hours after they were summoned, half of the bottom floor, which has been turned into apartments, was still on fire.
Before assistance could be dispatched, fifteen individuals managed to flee the Emperor’s Gate residence in south Kensington; a total of 130 inhabitants were evacuated.
Firefighters from Chelsea, Kensington, Fulham, Battersea, Hammersmith, and Kensington also battled the fire, which was contained by 4.40 am.
As of right now, the fire’s origin remains unknown.
