An enormous alligator that weighed hundreds of pounds and had lived with its owner for decades has been taken into custody, according to New York authorities.
Albert, the alligator, was sized from a house in Hamburg, which is south of Buffalo.
According to media reports citing the state Department of Environmental Conservation, the home’s owner did not forbid guests, including small children, from entering the same pool where the gator was found.
According to reports, the 340 kilogram alligator has spinal problems and is blind in both eyes.
The alligator’s license to be kept expired in 2021.
According to the agency’s statement, “Officers took action after learning the extent to which the owner was seriously endangering the public.”
Owner Tony Cavallaro, however, claimed that Albert had been living with him since the 1990s and that he would fight to have him back, saying that “the alligator was like his kid and that he never put anyone in danger.”
“I tried renewing it when they changed their rules and had questions to ask,” he was reported as saying in the Guardian. Even though I should be grandfathered in, they disregarded my emails and phone calls to make sure I done everything correctly. When they give me a court date, I will know it.”
Cavallaro told the journalists, “I’m not dangerous; I’m not being unsafe with people.”
