ISLAMABAD: As the country prepares for the general elections set for February 8, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to make SMS service 8300 free of charge starting on Monday, January 29. This move is intended to make voting easier for voters.
During a radio program this morning, Syed Nadeem Hyder, the spokeswoman for the ECP, Additional Director General (ADG) Nighat Sadique, and the Project Director of the Project Management Unit made the announcement.
By texting the number on their computerized identity cards to 8300, voters, according to the announcement, can verify information about their polling places and constituencies.

Voters must provide their Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) to the polling place in order to cast a ballot, according to ECP authorities. Even if the CNIC has expired, a vote may still be cast using the token that was issued in order to obtain a new CNIC.
According to ECP authorities, a technology-based structure has been put in place to guarantee the election process’s impartiality and openness.
Numerous foreign observers have also been invited to observe the elections, according to ECP ADG Sadique.
A deadline has been established for the completion of election results under the Election Act, the ECP spokeswoman continued.
Additionally, he stated that by 2 a.m., presiding officers must transmit the election results to the electoral commission.
