KARACHI: The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) will connect a 31-kilometer gas distribution pipeline from MVA Attock Cement Pakistan Limited (ACPL) to Sales Meter Station (SMS) Surjani on Sunday, which would result in the suspension of gas supplies to a significant portion of Karachi. The pipeline has a 24-inch diameter.

To complete the crucial operation, the SSGC has stated that the gas supply will be temporarily switched off for a full day, starting at 5:00 am on July 28 and ending at 5:00 am on July 29.

The upcoming closure may have an impact on the following areas: FB Area (all blocks), Gulberg (all blocks), North Nazimabad (all sectors), Baldia Town, Ittehad Town, Mauripur, Central Region’s Gulshan-e-Maymar, Ahsanabad, Surjani Town (all sectors), North Karachi (all sectors), Manghopir Town, Qasba Town, Orangi Town (all sectors), Janjal Goth and SITE Super Highway as well as their adjacent areas. The pipeline that would increase gas pressure in Karachi’s western area was officially opened on Thursday by SSGC Managing Director Imran Maniar.

According to an SSGC handout, the project’s goal is to improve the company’s infrastructure in order to better serve customers’ gas-related needs.

According to the statement, the pipeline will primarily solve the problems with the low-pressure gas delivery to the western region’s industrial customers of the company. The project will cost 3,859 million rupees in total.

The project aims to divide the high-pressure industrial consumers of SITE and Hub Industrial Areas from the low-pressure domestic and commercial users. These industrial clients’ current demand is between 130 and 140 MMSCFD, while their future excessive demand is projected to be between 80 and 100 MMSCFD.
