OpenAI and Anthropic Target Enterprise Market
Artificial intelligence startups OpenAI and Anthropic are focusing on enterprise customers this year. They aim to grow revenue, users, and market share.
Enterprise Customers Drive Growth
At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar told Baner Club that enterprise clients are now a key part of their business strategy.
Enterprise accounts for about 40% of OpenAI’s revenue in January, and Friar expects it to rise to around 50% by year-end. OpenAI announced that over 1 million businesses worldwide use its technology.
OpenAI was founded as a nonprofit AI research lab in 2015. Its valuation has reached $500 billion since the launch of ChatGPT in 2022.
“We’re an incredibly strong business today,” Friar said. “Our focus is on adding value to both consumers and enterprises while closing capability gaps.”
Anthropic Leans on Enterprise Stability
While Anthropic provides some consumer products, Amodei said they are not the company’s main focus. About 80% of Anthropic’s business comes from enterprises, with 20% from consumers.
He explained that enterprises offer a more predictable and stable income. “Since the beginning, Anthropic has focused on the safety and reliability of AI systems. That aligns well with enterprise clients,” he said.
As of September, Anthropic had over 300,000 business customers, up from fewer than 1,000 two years earlier.
Company Background and Valuation
Anthropic was founded in 2021 by former OpenAI executives and researchers. Its valuation has grown to $350 billion.
