In a recent podcast interview, Native American actress Lily Gladstone, who was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in “Killers of the Flower Moon,” attacked the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers.
Gladstone, a Piegan Blackfeet person who was born in Montana, was featured on the “Variety Awards Circuit” podcast, which was made available on Thursday. Gladstone made his remarks before to the Chiefs’ victory over the 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII, according to Variety.
She criticized the 49ers moniker as well as nearly every aspect of the Chiefs, including the tomahawk chop that supporters have used to support the club.
She told the newspaper, “To be honest, you could hold both teams accountable.” The California Gold Rush, which was extremely cruel for California Indians, is the basis for the 49ers.
“The Chiefs came next. The word “chief” can be interpreted in a variety of ways. I take issue with more than just the name. It’s the sound of that fucking tomahawk chop. Every time, the tomahawk chop instantly transports us to the sounds of vintage Westerns, in which we were either not playing ourselves or, if we were, only providing background. It’s a sobering reminder of what Hollywood has done to us.
