ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar said Friday that if more countries join Pakistan’s defense agreement with Saudi Arabia, it might develop into an Eastern North Atlantic Treaty Organization (Nato).
“We have an important defense treaty with Saudi Arabia. At a National Assembly session, he stated, “More nations now wish to sign a similar agreement with us.”
A “Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement” was signed on September 17 between Islamabad and Riyadh, which stated that any attack on one country would be viewed as an act of aggression against both.
DPM Dar emphasized the importance of the deal, stating that a number of Arab and Muslim countries have indicated their desire to sign a similar accord with Pakistan.
