Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have pledged to enhance their defence collaboration under the recently signed Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement (SMDA).
The Chief of General Staff (CGS) of Pakistan, Lieutenant General Syed Aamer Raza, met with General Fayyadh Bin Hameed Al-Rowaily, Chief of General Staff of the Royal Saudi Armed Forces, in Riyadh to discuss strategic interests and ways to boost military interoperability.
The two nations reaffirmed their commitment to deepening the long-standing brotherly ties, aiming to promote regional peace, stability, and defence self-reliance. The SMDA, signed on September 17 by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, considers an attack on either country as an act of aggression against both.
During the visit, Pakistan’s tri-services delegation, led by CGS Raza, participated in the Pakistan-KSA Bilateral Defence Industrial Forum. The forum, hosted by Saudi Assistant Minister of Defence Khalid Al Biyari, reviewed ongoing defence projects and explored opportunities for joint ventures in emerging technologies.
CGS Raza emphasized Pakistan’s continued support in building the capacity of Saudi defence forces. Saudi officials lauded Pakistan’s efforts and sacrifices in combating terrorism and acknowledged Islamabad’s vital role in maintaining regional security.
