In the first two months of the current fiscal year, Pakistan got $1.38 billion in external financial aid, which is about twice as much as it borrowed during the same time last year.
In its most recent report, the Economic Affairs Division (EAD) disclosed that inflows comprised grants, loans, and assistance from Saudi Arabia’s oil facility.
Annually, borrowing almost doubles.
The EAD claims that from July to August 2025, Pakistan borrowed Rs391 billion. This amount is twice as much as the Rs199 billion borrowed in the previous fiscal year.
Over the course of the two months, the nation obtained $32.4 million in grants and $1.34 billion in loans. Of this, $460 million was distributed for project-based financing, and $910 million was classified as non-project aid.
