Pakistan successfully blocked two significant cyberattacks targeting key state institutions, officials revealed as the government accelerates efforts to establish a National Cyber Security Authority.
Major General (R) Ali Farhan, Managing Director of the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC), told the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on IT that hackers attempted to breach multiple government systems over the weekend. Thanks to rapid response teams, both coordinated attacks were neutralized before any damage could occur.
He added that during recent Pakistan-India tensions, the country’s IT and telecom infrastructure also remained fully protected, with every cyber threat effectively countered.
In a related incident, a cyberattack targeting data at the Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) was also blocked. Joint teams from the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) and PFSA intervened quickly to prevent a data-encryption attempt. Officials confirmed that all PFSA records and reports remain intact, with enhanced security protocols now in place.
