ISLAMABAD: As part of the Integrated Flood Resilience Adaptation Project (IFRAP), which is supported by the World Bank, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has started a significant project to update the nation’s early flood warning and weather forecasting systems.
According to a news release, the initiative, called “Modernization of Hydromet Services of Pakistan (MHSP),” is to improve PMD’s ability to produce, analyze, and distribute trustworthy hydrometeorological data in order to increase the nation’s climate resilience.
The plan calls for the installation of four fixed weather surveillance radars, 110 automatic weather stations, and a high-performance computing system, according to official documents that Wealth Pakistan has access to.
