Pakistan Railways (PR) intends to contract out 22 more trains’ commercial operations. Nevertheless, prior experiences have cast doubt on this plan’s viability.
For instance, financial difficulties prevented a well-known company from operating Business Express profitably. A different company also ceased to run the Bahauddin Zakaria Express due to technical, administrative, and financial issues.
In a recent move, PR has chosen to republish the tenders for rail outsourcing. Only three corporations expressed interest and participated, but their offers fell short of the benchmark sum. For this reason, the decision was made. The Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) norms and regulations made it difficult for PR to proceed with these three enterprises; therefore, the tenders will be issued again shortly.
