Pakistan voiced worries on Friday over the paucity of flood-related information that India has offered, claiming that this year’s diplomatic routes have not yielded as much information as previous years.
This comment was made in the midst of one of the worst floods in the nation’s history after India opened all of the gates to its major dams in response to warnings sent to Pakistan through diplomatic channels, including one today, rather than the appropriate Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) conference last month.
The treaty requires New Delhi to warn of flooding on three rivers that flow from India into Pakistan.
Speaking at a weekly briefing today, Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan stated that India did not disseminate the information through the Indus Water Commissioner’s channel.
