In areas severely affected by recent floods, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed the Ministry of Finance to begin negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in order to potentially waive or partially alleviate electricity payments for a month.

According to official sources, the projected aid will not only help rural areas but also cities devastated by flooding throughout Pakistan. The prime minister underlined the need for quick assistance for those who have lost their homes, means of subsistence, and access to basic services as a result of the disastrous floods.
