ISLAMABAD Pakistan has made the decision to take part in the Afghanistan negotiations being hosted by the UN this weekend in the capital of Qatar, diplomatic sources said News on Thursday.
After turning down an invitation to the previous round of negotiations, a Taliban official told AFP earlier this month that the Taliban will be present in the third round, which is set to begin on June 30.
Asif Durrani, Pakistan’s Special Representative on Afghanistan, and Ahmad Naseem Warraich, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ assistant secretary for West Asia, are expected to represent Pakistan in the negotiations, according to the sources.
It should be mentioned that Pakistan has repeatedly asked the Taliban leadership to limit the usage of its territory in order to stop cross-border terrorism from Afghanistan into Pakistan.
Due of the involvement of women and representatives of civil society, the Afghan Taliban’s provisional administration reportedly skipped the second round of talks in Doha in 2024, according to diplomatic sources.
They asserted that this would be the first time special representatives on Afghanistan from various parts of the world would meet face to face with the interim administration of Afghanistan.
