An agreement has been formalized between the National Disaster Management Institute (NDMI) and the China-Pakistan Joint Research Centre for Earth Sciences (CPJRC) with the goal of enhancing disaster management, particularly in Pakistan’s northern mountain regions that are vulnerable to landslides and earthquakes.
The National Disaster Management Authority of Pakistan (NDMA) and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) inked a cooperation agreement.
The agreement calls for the deployment of early warning forecast systems and an enhanced disaster risk simulation to increase disaster resilience in Pakistan’s northern mountainous regions.
Both parties agree to enhance the use of early warning forecasting and risk modeling technologies for mountain disasters.
According to the Chinese media, new monitoring stations that improve data collecting and risk assessment are anticipated to be set up. These elements are critical for prompt and efficient disaster response.
Presenting the mountain disaster risk simulation and early warning forecast system, academician Cui Peng, Executive Deputy Director and Chief Scientist of CPJRC, expressed optimism about its successful implementation in Pakistan and the potential for fruitful future collaboration between the two sides.
