According to the military’s media wing, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir called late Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahain, who perished in last week’s helicopter crash, “true friends of Pakistan.”
According to a statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Sunday, the army chief’s remarks were made over the phone with Major General Mohammad Bagheri, the Chief of General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces.
The COAS sent sincere condolences for the tragic and terrible event of the May 19 helicopter crash, which resulted in the deaths of FM Abdollahain, President Raisi, and other high-ranking officials.
According to Gen. Munir, Pakistan has extraordinary leaders and genuine friends in the Iranian president and foreign minister.
The COAS emphasized how terrible and irreversible the death of the leaders and others was. “[The] COAS on behalf of all ranks of Pakistan Army extended prayers for the departed souls and well wishes for the bereaved families.”
The army chief went on to say that Pakistan and Iran have strong historical, cultural, and fraternal links, and that their armed forces have always supported one another.
Thanking the COAS for sharing their sorrow, General Bagheri promised to keep the two forces working together.
