A discussion over the president’s State of the Nation address was cut off by the outage.
In a video posted by the local media, lawmakers could be heard shouting in the poorly illuminated chamber, “Dumsor, dumsor,” which translates to “power outage” in the native Akan language.
A backup power generator reportedly brought the chamber’s electricity back a few minutes later, according to local media.
However, before supplies were restored, other areas of the parliament building were left without electricity for the most of the day.
According to Ghana’s TV3 channel, lawmakers and staff members who were use the elevator at the time of the sudden blackout became stuck.
