ISLAMABAD: The parliamentary parties would receive the chairmanships of standing committees based on their numerical strength in the National Assembly, as per the agreement struck between the opposition and treasury benches on Thursday, The News reported on Friday.
This was determined at a meeting chaired by National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, which included top whips from all the parties. Nevertheless, the opposition has requested time for consultations on selecting committee chairs, and the NA speaker will make a final determination about this understanding next week.
The people in attendance at the meeting included Shazia Marri, Malik Amir Dogar, Mujahid Khan, Naveed Qamar, Aijaz Jakhrani, Khalid Hussain Magsi, Gul Asfar Khan, Noor Alam Khan, Zain Hussain Qureshi, Aminul Haq, Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Hafeezuddin, and Moin Aamir.According to sources, a decision was made to give the opposition the chairmanship of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and to give the parliamentary committee on Kashmir to the Treasury benches. The opposition leader would choose a member of the PAC’s membership to serve as its leader.
